Rain plans: what Upstate venues actually do

Of the 38 Greenville and Upstate wedding venues in this guide, 10 publish a rain plan on their own site, 6 hold everything indoors already, and 22 do not say (as of October 24, 2026). The published plans come in three kinds: an indoor backup room, a tent, or a covered outdoor space. Whichever it is, get who makes the call, and by what time, in writing.

What rain plans do Upstate wedding venues offer?

An indoor backup room. The ceremony moves inside, often into the same room as the reception, which means a room flip during cocktail hour. Ask who flips it and how long it takes.

A tent. Either the venue includes one, requires you to rent one, or recommends it. Tents need to be booked weeks out, and some rental companies have a cutoff for cancelling. If a tent is required, count it as part of the venue price.

A covered space outdoors. A pavilion, porch or covered patio. These handle a passing shower well and a sideways storm less well.

Whatever the plan, get two things in writing: who makes the call, and by what time on the day.

22 venues that do not publish a rain plan

That does not mean there is no plan. It means you need to ask, using the questions in our venue checklist.
